Fix me

Some of us want to be healed in our hearts and bodies but do not know how. Etched in this episode, is an almost subtle employ of a colloquial dialect of the would I say, “Nigerian English”. I believe you would pick a few things there that would inspire you and strengthen your faith.

Matt 20:29

On His way from Jericho, it is possible that Jesus saw the two blind men (Bartholomew is the one we know but there was a second blind man according to St. Matthew’s account). These two blind men probably encouraged themselves saying…

Man1: “guy, how far? You dey hear say this Jesus guy dey heal person?”

Man 2: yes o baba mi, na wetin me sef hear o

Man 1: Shey dis prophet legit lai dis?

Man 2: omo guy, I dey hear different story o say the guy pure wella

And they overcame him (fear, doubt) by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimonies (sharing other people’s experiences).

Man 1: now that we are blind how do we find him, how do we ask people to help us find him (since we are beggars)

Man 2: We will rely on our most active sense and that is hearing. There is usually noise as this is a busy road but what we are going to do is that this time, we won’t listen for everybody as we normally do. We will listen diligently with our hearts for the sound of this great man. He will surely pass by (Psalms 130:5–6)

Man 1: This could be our only opportunity to see. Brother, I don’t know if it is really doable but I am excited at the possibility of this miracle since we have heard the report of others.

Man 2: Alrighty! I am with you brother. What else have we got to lose?

A few moments later…

Man 1: Dude, do you hear something? It’s different from the normal footfall we come across.

Man 2: I hear it too. They are really close. Someone just shouted Ye’shua. It is really Him!

Man1: we are gonna shout like we have been stung by a colony of bees!

Man 2: Sighs deeply* I am with you. When we shout together, the amplitude of our voices would pierce through the multitude ( there were possibly 500 people thronging Jesus and the Disciples).

Man 1: I’ll tell you what, let’s shout a mantra. “Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David”. We will shout it until he either hears us or until there’s no breath left in us. Ready?

Man 2: Dude, I was born ready to see! Let’s shout this mantra blindly!

They both exclaimed annoyingly through the crowd, “Have mercy on us, Lord, thou son of David”. Eventually, Jesus heard. And asked them what they wanted him to do for them. They spoke in unison (as probably planned too). “That our eyes may be opened”.

Now they could see, Now their eyes were opened. They left all they had and followed this great man.

There was a system of healing in the land called “the pool of Bethsaida” that system got people healed once a year but it was an inefficient system. Jesus, “the balm in Gilead” came on the scene and started the work of ministry, healing as many people as he possibly could. Jesus knew that his short earthly ministry was not enough time to heal all the sick so He came to set up a system that through salvation, anyone who could believe on Him would only not perish at the judgment day but He would duplicate Himself in that person (eternal life).

Jesus can heal you too. Jesus through salvation has had compassion on you already and He has been standing at the door of your heart (through men, social media, tracts etc.) saying “ I want to heal you”. Just say “Lord I Believe, Fix me!”. Now much more than you being healed, fixed and delivered, He wants you to partner with Him to Shine light to the dark places of the world (Isaiah 60:1–3). So you being healed is so that you can heal others.

Bolu Olatunji

Pray this: Dear Jesus, I believe you died for me to fix me and to make me like you. Please fix me, be my Lord, and make me fit enough to help fix others. Amen.
