Heart-Check

This writing’s intent is to prompt us to do a heart check in retrospect, the areas of our lives that have either been developed or not. As we ever nearly approach the end of a decade, it is pertinent we carry out some sort of heart check to see if we have been faithful with all God has put in our custody.
As earlier mentioned, this season isn’t just the drawing of curtains on a year signifying its end, but also that of an entire decade. This is usually a time when people start prepping up their “new year resolutions”. It is good that we hope for greater things in the new year before us. I also believe we should look back and put our performance as Christians on a scorecard with the help of the holy spirit to find out if we actually allowed God’s will to be done in us.
Psalms 26:2 Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.
The heart is a power-seat of emotions and it is necessary to check up on it very often. I believe “A Heart Check” is something we must do every day before we go to bed. When we allow the lord by his spirit to perform a forensic examination on our hearts, we allow Him to have a greater expression of his abilities in and through us. During our day (or year in this context). We may have said and/or do things that God does not approve and we must always ask God for His grace to help us be better Christians. This is not to make us sin-conscious but righteousness-responsible.
Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
If we claim to be made righteous by Christ, then we must walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing abounding unto every good work (Col 1:10). This can be achieved by walking daily and constantly in the spirit. One of the ways of walking worthy of the lord is by doing a heart check very often. This prevents us from quenching the Holy Spirit and his dealings. Here is a sample of questions to ask yourself:
- Did I hurt people with my words as a show of revenge today:
- Did I disrespect anyone?
- Did I refuse to help anyone when it was in my capacity?
- Do I mock people rather than encourage them to be better people?
- Do I honor older people (especially my parents)?
- Did I exhibit any lack of self-control when I was sexually aroused?
- Did I honor the Lord with my substance this year?
James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which can save your souls.
In this new decade approaching; In the new day dawning, we must desire to be better Christians, helping those in need, being constantly filled with the spirit, slow to anger, quick to hear, slow to speak. As every day renews itself, we must desire and learn to be progressively yielded to God enough. Amen?

Pray this: Father, I thank you for making me yours. I ask that you help me get rid of anything in me that is anti-Christ. Amen.
